  Whirl&Wake

In the video and photo installation whirl&wake I create film sequences using still images. The video is projected onto a pane of acrylic glass in a barrel containing water, while the sound and the video beamer are hidden under the barrel. The shadow of a figure sinks into the transparent water and spins in the depths. A constant, circular motion of sinking and emerging suggests a whirlpool. The whirlpool and the wake encourage the swimming motions which a person performs when exploring the depths. The attempt is as seductive as it is dangerous. Material: photo in light box, 1.00 x 1.50 m, DVD-Video, 3.7 min. loop, video beamer, barrel Ø 80 cm, Plexiglas pane, water, sound. Photo and video installation in the Nassauischer Kunstverein, NKV, Wiesbaden, 2001
